Unit 7

I already possessed  a range of physical skills and the ability to interpret then create and perform a character as appropriate to the demands of the performance. My  range of physical skills and techniques eg movement, body language, posture, gesture, gait, co-ordination, stillness, timing, control; facial expression; eye contact, listening, expression of mood; spatial awareness; interaction with other performers; dance and choral movement. These were all  the skills in which I possessed from professional background with Young Actors Theatre to the course.

Skills I have developed over the past two terms on the duration of this course were...  the development on how I  commit dialogue to memory for devised performances in which I was used to from background and professional experience. I've also developed a range of vocal skills and techniques for example; clarity of diction; inflection, accent, intonation and phrasing; pace, pause and timing; projection, pitch, emotional range; song and/or choral speaking. I've developed these vocal skills by doing tongue twisters at the start of Robs lessons as warm ups to help with clarity and articulation.

develop an appropriate performer to audience relationship not essentially by breaking the 4th wall but  ensuring sustained engagement throughout the performance which ties into the essence of performing for me because I love to entertain the masses.

Areas In which I feel  the need to develop would be bringing more energy to rehearsals. I'm a laid back person and I don't really see the point of putting theatrical energy into a class room but that's just my susceptive.
However I feel that my laid back attitude is a representation of my confidence and that I don't feel the need to outshine all the other actors in the room.Furthermore I feel that this attitude helps me to perform better on stage as it allows me to easily step in the shoes of the characters I play and allows me to have burst of energy on stage.

Areas I want to continue to develop  is performer to audience relationship and ensuring sustained engagement . To help with particular area I would need to continue on my practice for developing skills such as emotional memory , expression of mood and a range of vocal skills

Reflecting on previous classes ....  Its clear that my attitude doesn't restrict my ability to not perform well by reducing stress levels and nervousness allowing me to save energy and use it in ways unexpected to an audience  even surprising my teachers.
I haven't yet chosen to play a main roll but  preferred instead to choose medium or small rolls to challenge myself with developing an actor to audience relationship. Also to develop the ability to outshine  and entertain my audience no matter what role I play. From feedback I received from my audiences I feel like I  achieved this especially in Three Sisters  and Romeo & Juliet .

Shakespeare Monologue

As part of unit 7 we needed to perform a Shakespearean monologue. I elected to chose a monologue from The Tempest written by Shakespeare in the 1600's. When the play begins, Prospero, the deposed Duke of Milan, and his teenage daughter, Miranda, live on a remote island where they have been stranded for the past twelve years. Their only companions are Ariel, a magical spirit enslaved by Prospero, and Caliban, a native of the island who is also enslaved by Prospero. This then follows on to the monolouge where Caliban confronts Prospero about taking the island from him which is rightfully his.

I personally think the monologue has a huge amount of depth contextually especially as it was written around the time of colonisation and slavery.Foreigners voyaging onto lands and taking it from the indigenous people then enslaving them.
I feel like the monologue should be played with aggression , desperation, savagery , frustration but yet still showing love to his master.

Assessment feedback
'The Tempest' Caliban monologue "The Islands Mine".
I possess good stage energy however I need to bring it more into rehearsals .
look to try another Shakespeare play in which doesn't require a lot of movement possibly something comedic.

The essence of performance for me is .... using my imagination to create a piece of art in order to entertain the masses. Performing has been something I've been doing from a young age at the Young Actors Theatre in which I started to grow a passion for. However it was never specifically the art of acting that I wanted to go into. I had other passions  in which I indulged myself into like dancing and singing. I love entertaining the masses and hearing audiences laugh and scream to emphasise on how much they loved my or the performance. The purpose of performing for me is to attain fame In order to entertain the masses .
